Artist Statement

Much of what motivates me in life comes from a curiosity about connections – whether verbal, visual, interpersonal or spiritual. What makes people connect to each other? How do we communicate for meaning? What are animals trying to tell us?

That same curiosity also guides my art: does combining materials add meaning or just end up weird? What happens if I turn this upside down? What can I do with this found thing? What if I add another layer? How can I make this work?

Just about anything can spark my creative process and lead me down a path of more questions.

And then I figure it out. I put things together and take them apart. I create something new, something beautiful, something mundane, something funny, something magical, something that works or doesn’t, something I love or hate, something I will do again or need a break from.

I work through the questions with grit and love, and that becomes my art.
